Internet of Things in Manufacturing

IOT-SAP

Internet of things demo at SAP. Various compelling scenarios from port management, manufacturing, automotive, sports, city planning and retail were  set up.

This one is related to factory floor operations in a manufacturing facility. Equipment measurements by sensors allow predictive models of wear and tear to estimate when technical failure is likely to take place. Sensors measure vibrations and sound generated by equipment activity. Preemptive maintenance reduces unscheduled closure of factory operations and the need for technicians to work on weekends – improving cost and profitability.

Such behind the scenes execution of IOT is not as sexy as consumer wearables but is part of the invisible transformation in the real economy that will change the way we operate when we talk about implications of the billion of “things” becoming connected.
